Faces in the Crowd: Reaching Your International Neighbor for Christ (Book)

By Kristen Lindsey

Donna S. Thomas. Faces in the Crowd: Reaching Your International Neighbor for Christ, Birmingham, Alabama: New Hope Publishers, 2008. 204 pp. (Paperback)

Our world is no longer neatly divided into homogenous cultures. Globally, our cities and countries are becoming increasingly multi-cultural. Donna S. Thomas hones in on this new reality in her book, Faces in the Crowd: Reaching Your International Neighbor for Christ. Focusing on the “Jerusalem” part of the Acts 1:8 commission, Thomas effectively challenges her readers to start being intentional in reaching internationals in the United States. No longer should internationals be a lost face in the crowd, but rather people with whom Christians have a relationship.

Faces in the Crowd
is practical and interactive. Thomas does not want her readers to just read about being a Great Commission Christian; she wants them to become Great Commission Christians. Therefore, at the end of each lesson, Thomas asks questions and assigns homework. The effectiveness of this book is potentially increased if the reader were to follow her suggested “action steps” during the week.

Through the means of personal story, Thomas easily engages with her readers, making this book a fun and straightforward read. Her example of reaching internationals in her neighborhood inspired me to go and do the same. Because of its practicality and clarity, this is a good book for both men and women who want to reach their international community for Christ.
