American Christian rock group Relient K changed more than its drummer on its sixth album. Relient K successfully matured and reinvented their sound and lyrics while keeping their unique interpretations—like comparing a prayer to a therapy session with God.
This album shows listeners how to move on and rebuild after a failed relationship with songs like “Therapy,” “Over It,” and the title song “Forget and Not Slow Down.” The lyrics show how relationships can fail, but God will not.
There might not be songs about a Sadie Hawkins dance or a horse and a glue factory, like in The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek album, but I enjoy the change. Laughs are good, but as I have matured, I want music with more substance and deeper meanings. Relient K does that while never getting dull.
I leave this CD on repeat, and I recommend you give it a good listen.
“This is just therapy ‘cause you won’t take my calls and that makes God the only One Who’s left here listening to me.”
—“Therapy”
“I’d rather forget and not slow down than gather regret for the things I can’t change now.”
—“Forget and Not Slow Down”
