I Love Books!

I love books. I’m obsessed. One day, I hope to have a room dedicated to a library full of all different types of books.

I’ve read an assortment of Christian literature and have found some to make my list of favorites. I thought I would share them with you (in no particular order).

Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot

This story is the prime example for missional living to the ends of the earth. It is the true story of five male missionaries who were martyred by indigenous people in Ecuador in the 1950s. The author is the wife of one of the murdered men, Jim Elliot. Jim and Elisabeth truly surrendered every aspect of their lives to the Lord, and their story is truly inspiring.

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

Okay, so this book is a little dense and full of rich language (which tends to be Lewis’ style). However, it is a great breakdown of the gospel. Lewis marvelously proves why Christianity and its components are valid and applicable. This is a great book to create a solid foundation for your faith and to be able to explain why you believe what you believe.

Same Kind of Different as Me by Denver Moore and Ron Hall

Warning: this is a tear jerker! It’s the incredible true story of a husband and wife who—get this—invest in one man’s life that makes a huge impact in his life, a local ministry, and the entire community. What makes it so great is the fact that it is a true story and that these people are real and living and serving the Lord today. It’s absolutely worth the tears!

Other books I love:

  • Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
  • Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge
  • Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot
  • Radical by David Platt

While these are not replacements to reading Scripture, these books are wonderful resources to strengthen your faith and your goals in missional living.

“Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Amen.”
